Seriously, what is this madness?

As always there is the short and the long answer. Let’s start with the short one.

The Bike Ramble is a bike ride. A very long one. A bike ride around the world to be exact. In the early spring of 2015 I strapped everything I owned onto a bicycle, kissed my family and friends goodbye and took those first wobbly pedal strokes into the unknown. Why? My driving force is the urge to experience it all. I want to go everywhere. Meet everyone. I want to taste all food, and get to take part in every culture. I want to see every view and swim every sea. I want to truly get to know this world.

I’ve always loved a challenge. This is a big one, I’m well aware of that. There are rough times. There are ruthless headwinds and steep mud road climbs. Freezing cold and tormenting heat. Loneliness. There are places where the simple fact that I’m a woman puts me in far from ideal situations. For sure, there are times when I’m given every reason to… go home. And that makes me want this even more. Because that day when I finally do get there, I want to be able to pat myself on the back and say ‘Girl. You actually did it.’.

Yes. The Bike Ramble is a bike ride. But it’s also something much bigger. Not only do I want to see the world as it is, I want to see it become better. What gives this journey true meaning is the distance based fundraiser in support of ActionAid’s global work to defend the most basic human rights of girls and women of this world. If you enjoy following along, please consider becoming part of the fundraiser. Even the smallest contribution can mean the world to someone, and together we’re truly making a difference.

Here’s how to join the fight.
